General Information

The Event starts and finishes at the (south end of) the Sundial Bridge. Featuring two different course lengths. Participants are asked to arrive 30 minutes before the start time. 

Parking will be just west of the main parking area for the convention center.  Do not park in the convention center parking area.  Proceed past that area to the event parking area behind the convention center.

Concept

  • Community-based bike rides for two different skill levels
  • 10-mile ride for adults and children under 12
  • 32-mile ride for adults and children 12 and over 

Detailed ride descriptions:

10-mile ride
  • Start/End at ride headquarters at the south end of the Sundial Bridge.
  • Adults pay a nominal fee to participate, with children under 12 riding for free.
  • All riders receive a pre-ride bicycle safety check, a helmet adjustment and check by a training helmet fitter, a rider number card that is attached to the bike, and a ride t-shirt or arm band to wear on the ride.
  • Riders cross the Sundial Bridge and ride up the north side of the Sacramento River Trail and cross the Ribbon Bridge.
  • Riders turn right at the bridge and continue up to the rest stop at the Keswick trailhead of the Sacramento Rail Trail (at the base of Heartrate Hill.)
  • Riders check in. After resting and refreshments, riders return to the start on the south side of the Sacramento River Trail, crossing the old Diestelhorst Bridge along the way.
  • A course marshal periodically patrols the trail by bike to ensure riders are safe and to answer questions.
  • After the ride, all riders get a post-ride meal at ride headquarters.
32-mile ride
  • Start/End at ride headquarters at the south end of the Sundial Bridge.
  • Prior to ride start, all riders receive a pre-ride bicycle safety check, a helmet adjustment and check by a training helmet fitter, a rider number card that is attached to the bike, and a ride t-shirt to wear on the ride.
  • Riders cross the Sundial Bridge and ride up the north side of the Sacramento River Trail and cross the Ribbon Bridge.
  • Riders turn right at the Bridge and continue up to the ride rest stop at the Keswick trailhead of the Sacramento Rail Trail (at the base of Heartrate Hill.)
  • After resting and refreshments, riders continue north on the Rail Trail over Heartrate Hill and on to the Keswick launch ramp.
  • An aid station/water stop will be posted at the launch ramp parking lot to provide water and to assist riders who may have decided they are not up to completing the ride.
  • Riders continue north on the Rail Trail to the turn-around rest stop at Chappie OHV park covered pavilion and restrooms.
  • Course marshals will periodically patrol the trail from both the Keswick and Chappie ends by bike to ensure riders are safe and to answer questions.
  • Riders return to the Start/Finish by heading south again on the Rail Trail, over Heart Rate Hill, and back down the south side of the River Trail, using the same return route as the 10-mile ride.
  • After the ride, all riders get a post-ride meal at ride headquarters.
